After implementing more rigorous illegal immigration laws Alabama's schools are seeing an increase in bullying of Hispanic children, so much in fact that the Justice Department has setup a bilingual hotline to help curb this tide.
What makes this such a difficult situation is that these kids to not understand they are considered illegal immigrants, they are just there to attend school, make friends, and have fun. Another exacerbating circumstance is that the parents of these children who may or may not be illegal immigrants are rightfully skeptical of the help they would actually receive with fear of both retaliation and possibly exportation.

After 2 years of seeing her child be bullied, at a the school she worked at, a mother steps up and tries to get the school to actually do something to help her daughter. Two days later the mother is fired from her position.
Here is a situation which speaks to the 5 r's of bullying. When, time and again, reaching out for help, nobody was there to support this girl, until finally the mother stepped up. We as adults charged with the protection of our children, many of us having encountered bullying, must help at the first signs of bullying, rather than waiting 2 years for the situation to escalate to a point of no return.
The Orange county school district is currently trying to pass an anti-bullying bill that would allow the victim of bullying to switch school districts, with the notion that separation for the victim, even though the victim would be forced to change districts, would be a solution to the problem.
It is a good idea, but shouldn't the one bullying be forced to switch school districts, or the individual being bullied be allowed to say whether or not they want to switch school districts?
